Oh? You do what, now…….??

I am a holistic health consultant. This is my career choice. This is my answer when people ask me, “what do you do?”. It is often followed by questioning stares or puzzled looks. Some even suck in a breath or take a step back. 😉 Time to set the record straight!

To fully understand what I do, let’s look at the definition of ‘holistic’. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines holistic as:

1
: of or relating to holism
2
: relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts .

“Related to or concerned with wholes.” The main focus of my consultations is wholeness. A mind/body wellness connection. Instead of being concerned with one issue or ailment, I look at the big picture. For example, if you met with me to discuss not being able to sleep, I would not just find ways to help you fall asleep. I would instead look at underlying causes for your restless, sleepless nights. Perhaps there is too much stress, or a racing mind, or something you are eating to cause unsettled or hyper activity. If we eat properly, our bodies function better. If our bodies function better, our minds work better. It is that holistic (wholeness) approach that is my focus.
Some have asked me if being a holistic health consultant means I am a new age-y person or a granola-hippie person or if my approach is centered in a certain religion. The answer is no. Being a holistic health consultant merely means I am focused on your balance of wholeness. It is not tied to anything other than finding wellness through wholeness.
Now that we have discussed what my focus is, the next query is probably, HOW do you provide holistic help? What exactly do you do? When you make a consultation appointment with me, I will have you fill out a questionnaire to gain insight into your habits and routines. The questions will pertain to dietary habits, negative habits, stress levels, exercise routines, etc. I will also ask what your health goals are. Using those key pieces of information, I will work with you to determine a course of action. We would discuss things like meditation, Reiki, exercise, changing dietary habits, lowering stress levels, substituting in recipes, etc. I do not ever wish to judge, merely to help determine what might be working and what might not be.

The name of my business came from my own path to wellness. It was the gradual changes that stuck and that helped me the most. Little stepping stones on my path to wellness. I also like to use an ‘er’ approach. In our busy modern day lives, we can’t always make the best choices. But we can make bettER choices. Starting with those little changes eventually leads to larger ones and ones that tend to stay.

As a holistic health consultant, my purpose is to assist you in finding balance and wholeness. I do not replace medical doctors. Whatever suggestions I might give you during a consultation should always be discussed with your primary care physician prior to starting. I am not a dietitian, nor a weight loss coach. I am not an herbalist nor Naturopathic Doctor. In the course of our consultations, it might be recommended that you seek them out as well, to help you resolve other issues. There are many paths to wellness. My purpose is to help you find those. By working together, we can find that balance and wholeness. 🙂
